EXPLORER: Gnarly Routes

Exciting terrain, amazing locations, and riding with REVER ambassador and five-time Enduro champ Russell Bobbitt

If your idea of a vacation is sitting your butt down on the seat of a motorcycle, instead of the tiki bar at an all-inclusive resort, Gnarly Routes may be the ticket you need to punch. Riding buddies Russell Bobbitt and Cole Kirkpatrick wanted to share the enthusiasm they both had for off-road riding and decided to create a tour company to share the experiences and awesome locations they’d been riding for years.

And if anyone knows a thing or two about finding awesome riding locations, it’s these two. If you think you’ve heard their names before, that’s probably because Bobbitt is a five-time national enduro champion and seven-time ISDE medalist. While Kirkpatrick was also a top competitor in the national enduro championship and winner of many regional off-road championships, and top industry videographer and photographer.

Want to be factory for a few days? Gnarly Routes will make you feel like a pro.
Grand Junction, Colorado
Did you know that West Texas has riding like this? This is near Post.

“My main passion for riding motorcycles stems from my basic need to explore,” said Bobbitt. “My favorite thing about riding is discovering new trails and exploring the outdoors. For years, traveling the country racing dirt bikes filled that need, and it is awesome racing in so many different states and with such variety of terrain. I love to push the limits and see how fast I can make it down a trail, but I also like to ride at a flow pace and go the distance while checking out unreal scenery and finding technical trails in primitive riding locations! Cole and I have taken trail riding vacations for years now, and we thought it would be awesome to showcase some of our favorite spots with others, while on badass bikes like we ride!”

What is unique to Gnarly Routes are the small groups, most of the tours have a limit of four guests, making for a fun, manageable group, and plenty of one-on-one time with Bobbitt and Kirkpatrick. There will also be a Hut-to-Hut dual-sport ride in REVER’s hometown of Eagle, Colorado, for 500cc-plus dual-sport or ADV bikes, with a rider limit of 10.

Standard tour prices  (those other than the hut-to-hut) include rental of either a KTM 250 XC-W TPI or KTM 350 EXC-F motorcycle, with the choice of a Rekluse Core EXP 3.0 autoclutch or Core manual clutch. Lodging, breakfast, and lunch on the trail are also included in the tour price, while dinner is typically up to the participants. All riders will receive an event recap video and selection of hi-res photographs at the conclusion of the tour.

Camaraderie is a lot easier with a smaller group. Groups are usually set to four guests.
Does it get cooler than this?
The area around Post, Texas, has some epic riding.

“The inspiration to start Gnarly Routes came from years of going on fun trips with Russell and a few other close friends,” said Kirkpatrick. “Russell and I would always talk about how cool it would be to offer people the chance to fly in and fly out of unique riding destinations and spend the weekend riding. In December, we pretty much pulled the trigger on getting things rolling and has been a lot of fun but challenging at the same time. We have learned a lot and look forward to sharing experiences with other riders in the future. With my background in video and photography, Russell and I can create unique content for our partners. Every time that we go ride, I carry a DSLR with me, and we both run GoPros so that we can share our adventures with our followers and digital memories for our guests.”
