Everyone loves a three-day holiday weekend, right? But what we really love about them is that they open the door to making a mini roadtrip a possibility. Where will you ride with three days to explore? Here are five recommended routes that are worth checking out that can be easily split into fun multi-day trips.
1) Southern California
Pacific Coast Highway: San Juan Capistrano To Leggett
California's Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) is one of America's most famous stretches of road measuring just over 700 miles from San Juan Capistrano north of San Diego and ending at the 101 in Leggett in Mendocino County. If you really want to do the road in its entirety that is it. But that also means in addition to amazing coastal views for hours on end in some of the most scenic sections, you'll also have to endure passing through the meat of Long Beach, Western Los Angeles, and San Francisco.
2) Northwest
Northern Oregon/Mount Hood Loop
This loop starts and ends in Salem, Oregon, and can be ridden either clockwise or counter-clockwise. It is primarily paved, but has some sections of gravel road that are ideal for an ADV machine. The route heads as far east as the John Day Highway and runs along the river of the same name, before heading back to the west and Mount Hood, and Mount Hood National Forest. Then returns to Salem.
3) Northeast
Northeastern Tour: Mount Washington To Maine Lakes Region
This route starts in New Hampshire and then zigs and zags around the Mount Washington National Forest before heading into Maine and its many northwestern lakes around Rangeley. It then loops back toward New Hampshire and makes its way back south of Mt. Washington and along Highway 112 before heading back into Laconia.
4) Southeast
Claw Of The Dragon To Tail Of The Dragon Via BRP
This route, or a variation of it, is about as good as it gets for twisty roads. Starting in Wytheville, Virginia, you can run the outer loop of the Claw of the Dragon, or ride all of the Claw routes in the area before jumping on the Blue Ridge Parkway and heading southwest toward Asheville, North Carolina. From Asheville you'll head due west and jump on the Tail of the Dragon, one of the most epic sportbike roads in the United States. Have fun!
5) Midwest
Ultimate Ozarks Multi-Day Touring
The Ozark National Forest is packed with amazing scenery and amazing roads that literally zig and zag all over northern Arkansas. This route is a combination of fun roads north of Little Rock. Ride this route, or create your own ultimate Ozarks route using our Butler Maps Layers, or clicking on our Discover section and combining some of those suggested routes into a two- or three-day adventure. Either way, you can't go wrong.
